A West Valley City church became the unintended recipient of an SUV's force following a domestic disturbance that led to the vehicle's collision with the religious establishment late Sunday evening. According to FOX13, a 21-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and domestic violence after the altercation with his girlfriend apparently caused him to lose control of the SUV.
Elaborating on the events that transpired, KUTV reported that the argument erupted over a text message, the man, in a fit of anger, seized his girlfriend's phone and hurled it out the window in the heat of their quarrel he lost control which sent the car barreling into the Church of Latter-day Saints building in West Valley. Sgt. Rose confirmed that there were occupants inside the building at the time of the crash, but by fortunate circumstances no injuries were reported.
Miraculously, despite the potential for disaster, the crash resulted in no injuries to any churchgoers. The couple involved sustained only minor injuries, as disclosed by Public Information Officer Roxeanne Vainuku in a follow-up the morning after the incident, as mentioned by KSLTV. Vainuku further stated that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
