A brutal altercation in North Seattle ended with a man severely injured from a machete attack, sparking a major investigation by Seattle police. The incident, which took place last Sunday night near NW 46th St. and 9th Ave. NW in Ballard, left a victim with deep wounds and initiated a manhunt for the alleged assailant. KOMO News reported that the 53-year-old male victim suffered "severe lacerations to the left side of his head, left forearm, and left hand."
According to authorities, the violent exchange began with a confrontation over money between the victim and his ex-girlfriend, during which her new boyfriend then purportedly began assaulting the man with a machete. "The victim’s ex-girlfriend confronted him about money. During that argument, the new boyfriend began striking the victim with a machete," SPD Detective Eric Munoz told MYNorthwest. Despite the efforts of the Lynnwood Police Department to locate the suspect, with indications that he may be residing in Lynnwood, the individual responsible for the attack remains at large.
Officers who arrived at the scene discovered a vivid 20-foot trail of blood, which was processed for evidence in the investigation. The victim, after the attack, managed to escape with the aid of a friend who drove him to Swedish Medical Center in Ballard for treatment. SPD has since issued an appeal for any information, also accepting anonymous tips, about the suspect through their Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. The case has now been taken up by the SPD's Homicide and Assault Unit.
