Texans are being encouraged to take a break from their digital leashes this Tuesday, as the Lone Star State celebrates its inaugural Unplug Texas Day. Mansfield Texas Parks & Recreation announced the event on their social media channels, seeking two volunteers to step away from the blue light and document their analog adventures with "special unplugged cameras." According to a social media post from Mansfield Texas Parks & Recreation, the new state holiday is dedicated to encouraging screen-free fun, with a host of free activities lined up to embrace life beyond the digital realm.
Those interested in becoming screen-free ambassadors have until 12 p.m. on Monday to leave a comment with their favorite offline activity. The chosen volunteers will be notified by a reply, with one winner selected from Facebook and another from Instagram. With the cameras to be picked up from the MAC by 9 p.m. on Monday, participants must confirm receipt by 2 p.m. or risk being replaced—so it's wise to have those notifications on.
Participants are encouraged to immerse themselves in any activity, as long as it remains screen-free. From parks to the comfort of home, the locations are as limitless as the possibilities for enjoyment without electronic interference. "There are no rules as to *what* or *how* you spend the day, as long as it's as screen-free as possible!" the Mansfield Texas Parks & Recreation stated, with the added note that all returned photos must be suitable for public sharing, rated G.
