Marietta's own historic venue, The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre, is bringing back the cherished holiday musical "Sanders Family Christmas" from November 7 to November 23, setting the stage for a season full of heart, humor, and Southern Gospel Christmas tunes. According to a recent release by The Strand, this production offers audiences a journey back to Christmas Eve in 1941 just as America steps into World War II, where the comedic and poignant stories of the Sanders Family provide a backdrop for a festive farewell to Dennis Sanders who's about to join the fight.
The ensemble, led by Director Cindi Costoulas, features Domenic Jungling as Reverend Oglethorpe, alongside a cast that includes J. Michael Bonnette, Annie Cook, London McKenna, Luke Kasner, Isabella Engberg, and Allen Harbold bringing life to the Sanders clan; this mix of seasoned performers aims to strike a chord with those familiar with such characters and draw in those encountering them for the first time. In a statement obtained by The Strand, Costoulas shared her connection: “I grew up with this kind of music, and getting to bring it to life on stage always feels like coming home,” adding, "Getting to share that with our audiences at The Strand, especially for the holiday season, is such a joy."
Following the run of "Sanders Family Christmas," The Strand plans to keep the merriment going with "A Christmas Tradition" slated for December 12 to December 21, ensuring the theater remains a hub of holiday cheer through the end of the year.
