A REACH medical helicopter crashed on Highway 50 near 59th Street in Sacramento, leaving three crew members critically injured. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the Sacramento Fire Department on their X account.

The pilot, nurse, and paramedic were all in critical condition and taken to nearby hospitals after the crash, which happened shortly after the helicopter dropped off a patient at UC Davis Medical Center. Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty said about 15 bystanders helped firefighters at the scene until more units arrived, as reported by ABC10.
Traffic on Highway 50 was delayed after a helicopter crash, with one lane later reopened and alternate routes suggested for drivers. Sacramento Fire Capt. Justin Sylvia said traffic made it difficult for responders, but the helicopter did not catch fire. The CHP is investigating if the pilot was attempting an emergency landing, and both the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are also looking into the incident. Flight data showed the helicopter left UC Davis Medical Center at about 7:05 p.m. and was last seen over Highway 50 around three minutes later. REACH Air Medical Services said they are working to learn what happened and the condition of their crew, stating, “We appreciate the concern and support from our community and will share updates when appropriate,” as mentioned by KCRA.
