The Mesquite Public Library has turned the page to a new chapter as Virginia Mundt, the seasoned Director of Library Services, has opted for retirement after a notable 46-year career. During a heartfelt retirement celebration this week, Mundt received acclaim and gratitude for her contributions to the community, highlighted by Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr., who dedicated a day in her honor, citing her impact on the city as undeniable, according to the City of Mesquite.

Virginia Mundt's legacy includes skillfully steering the library into the digital realm, a move that saw the facility win the Texas Municipal Library Directors Award consecutively for nine years. This accolade stands as a testament to her commitment to achieving Excellence in Library Services, a feat noted in the city's press release.

Now Lorie Travi steps into the role of Director of Library Services, previously holding the Assistant Director position since April this year. This administrative shift comes as Travi brings with her an extensive background, accumulating nearly two decades of experience in the sector before joining the Mesquite library team.

Before her latest role, Travi was involved with the Kitchener Public Library in Ontario, Canada, as its Director of Systems and Performance Outcome, where her responsibilities were expansive. She oversaw strategic planning, performed multiple software migrations to cloud-based systems, managed relationships, engaged in contract negotiations, and supervised the departmental budget. Travi, an alumnus of the University of Dallas and Texas Woman's University, garners respect for her academic prowess and practical expertise, including her recent achievement of a Public Library Leaders Certificate in 2023, as highlighted in the official city announcement.
