The search for a missing 75-year-old pilot in Indiana County has come to a tragic end. State police confirmed that David Edward Wittmer was found deceased after last being seen operating his ultralight aircraft last night. According to a report by WPXI, Wittmer had been practicing touch-and-go landings in a field near Church Street in Young Township when he took off and did not return.
Wittmer's body was discovered in a corn field less than one mile from the departure site around 10:30 a.m. today. His ultralight aircraft had crashed along Coal Run Road in Young Township. Authorities, who had been searching overnight, included the PSP Aviation Patrol Unit and local firefighters.
No foul play is suspected, and the incident is currently under investigation as an accidental death. Wittmer's next of kin have been notified, as reported by CBS News Pittsburgh.
