Missouri Lt. Governor David Wasinger announced the Missouri Lt. Governor’s Patch, a new program created with Scouting America to recognize Scouts for leadership, community service, and civic engagement. Joe Sadewasser, Scout Executive and CEO of the Greater St. Louis Area Council, said the program supports efforts “as we strive to build the next generation of values-based leaders,” according to the Office of Missouri Lieutenant Governor.

To earn the patch, Scouts must visit the Missouri State Capitol, complete at least 20 hours of volunteer service with government organizations, discuss the 10th Amendment, and write to their state legislators. Wasinger said “Scouting teaches responsibility, teamwork, and service — the same values that built Missouri,” and added that the program encourages youth participation in state and community activities, as reported by the Office of Missouri Lieutenant Governor.

Scouts from Missouri-based councils, including Pony Express, Great Rivers, Heart of America, Ozark Trails, and Greater St. Louis Area councils, are eligible to take part in the program. Governor David Wasinger, who serves on the Greater St. Louis Area Scouting Board, said, “As a father of two Eagle Scouts, I’ve seen firsthand how Scouting changes lives.” He added, “It builds confidence, character, and commitment to something bigger than yourself — the same kind of leadership Missouri needs for the future,” as stated by the Office of Missouri Lieutenant Governor.
