Missouri's dedication to public service efficiency was on full display during its seventh annual Show Me Excellence Summit, which convened on Wednesday, Oct. 15. According to an announcement by the Office of Administration, the summit is the result of coordination between the State of Missouri Operational Excellence Leaders and volunteers, aiming to elevate the workings of state team members to ensure top-tier service delivery for Missouri citizens.
Under the banner “Level Up! Progress, Not Perfection,” over 2,000 attendees, including cabinet leaders and employees from both Missouri and various other states, came together for the summit, the hallmark of Show Me Excellence Month as declared by Governor Mike Kehoe. In a statement obtained by the Office of Administration, the governor praised the summit, "The Show Me Excellence Summit is an incredible demonstration of our administration's commitment to efficiency and common-sense government." Governors remarks reinforced the notion that Missouri’s public servants are on the hunt for practical, innovative ways to enhance service delivery and government effectiveness for residents across the state.
Commissioner Ken Zellers of the Office of Administration emphasized the importance of continual personal and collective improvement in their approach. He told the Office of Administration, “Operational excellence is more than just meeting targets; it’s a commitment to continuous self-improvement, or ‘Leveling Up,’ as this year’s theme suggests." Training programs available during the month were highlighted as key investments in developing the critical-thinking skills of state employees, further embedding the citizen-centric approach in governmental processes.
The summit wrapped up with words from Director of Operational Excellence, Rebecca Moyers, who reminded those present about the essence of their work. “Operational excellence is the core engine of our public service mission. It means embedding continuous improvement into our daily work so we can make state services simpler, faster, and more reliable for our citizens," Moyers stated, according to the Office of Administration.
