A Molalla man has been serving a composite sentence of 113 months in prison following a succession of crimes that spanned robbery, vehicle theft, identity theft, and a failure to perform his duties at an injury accident scene, as reported by Clackamas County News. Alex James Raphun, 31, faced sentencing in Clackamas County Circuit Court, encompassing three separate cases.
In a sequence of events that unfolded in early 2023, Raphun engaged in a police chase while driving a stolen car before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot on Interstate 205; while possessed identification belonging to others. Earlier this year, a jury convicted Raphun on charges which included Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, Identity Theft, Reckless Driving, and two counts of Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, earning him a 43-month sentence (Clackamas County Circuit Court case 23CR11863).
During his conviction, it was reported by Clackamas County News that Raphun was already facing charges in two additional cases. Today, he had entered guilty pleas for both. In one scenario from May 2023, Raphun robbed a Happy Valley deli at gunpoint—for $450 using what turned out to be a toy gun—also making away with a woman's purse, before fleeing the scene on a scooter. For this, he received a 70-month sentence for Second Degree Robbery (Clackamas County Circuit Court case 24CR30453).
A month prior to the deli incident, Raphun was implicated in a case where he sideswiped two parked cars in Milwaukie, causing injury to one person. Walking away after a witness urged him to call 911, claiming the call was unnecessary, found in his backpack were checks made out to others, reported stolen blank checks, a pawn slip, and a debit card - all belonging to someone else. Raphun pled guilty to Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver to an Injured Person and two counts of Identity Theft, resulting in being sentenced to 30 months; these will run concurrently with his other prison terms (Clackamas County Circuit Court case 24CR00538).
Among Raphun's previous convictions mentioned by Clackamas County News, include theft, burglary, additional counts of identity theft, forgery, and drug crimes. The cases against Raphun were prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Jeremy Morrow and Baily Tarabochia.
