
Tragedy struck in New Sewickley Township yesterday afternoon when a motorcyclist was killed in a vehicular collision. According to WPXI, the crash occurred around 3:59 p.m. on the 300 block of Crows Run Road. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Jared Schmidt of Seven Fields, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The New Sewickley Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police Collision, Analysis, and Reconstruction Unit are conducting investigations to decipher the cause of the crash. Reports by WPXI state that Schmidt was riding eastbound when he was struck by another vehicle traveling westbound. The collision led to Crows Run Road being closed for approximately 5 hours for investigation and clean-up between State Route 65 and Freedom Crider Road.
Details about the other driver have not been disclosed, but they were not injured in the crash. The investigation was still ongoing as of last night, with no further information released, according to WTAE.
