As emergency services responded, all southbound lanes of I-225 were immediately closed at Iliff, causing a standstill for late-night traffic. Commuters were advised to seek alternate routes temporarily. To efficiently alleviate some of the resulting congestion, motorists were encouraged to take Iliff to Peoria and then go south on Peoria to merge back onto S/B I-225. The road closure, according to the Aurora Police, was expected "to be closed for a significant time."
