
At the Oregon Public Health Association’s 2025 Conference Awards Ceremony, Valdez Bravo, Deputy Director of the Multnomah County Health Department, received the Health Equity Champion Award for his efforts to reduce health disparities and promote equitable healthcare access. Bravo has been a strong advocate for community health, fostering inclusive environments and pushing for policy changes to improve the well-being of Oregonians, according to the Multnomah County.
Rachael Banks, director of the Health Department, praised him: "Valdez Bravo’s lifelong work embodies the spirit of this award. His dedication to dismantling systemic barriers has advanced our Health Department mission, and helped ensure everyone in our community, regardless of background, has the opportunity for optimal health." With a career spanning military service, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and over two decades in public health, Bravo’s leadership is shaped by experience, education, and a commitment to innovation in healthcare, as reported by the Multnomah County.
Bravo, past president of Oregon’s chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives and president of Health Care for All Oregon, has worked in managing health systems and supporting healthcare reforms. He has also helped rebuild a medical center in Liberia with Project HOPE. Outside of work, Bravo is a "dance dad" and cooks with his wife Marie, a professor and painter, as stated by the Multnomah County.
