On the fifth day of Sarah Hartsfield's murder trial in Chambers County, jurors heard medical expert testimony and reviewed past incidents related to the death of Joseph Hartsfield. According to Click2Houston, testimony included details of Joseph’s medical history, including his type 1 diabetes.
Medical experts addressed the high levels of insulin found in Joseph’s system at the time of his death. Jurors also viewed body camera footage from Chambers County deputies, in which Sarah stated she gave Joseph two insulin pens the night before he became unresponsive. She has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and has been in custody since early 2023. FOX 26 Houston reported that investigators noted inconsistencies and high insulin levels that suggested possible foul play. Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne described the case as technical and said detectives had to use a creative approach to build the investigation.
Sarah Hartsfield had a prior incident in 2018 involving the shooting death of another partner, David Bragg. That case was ruled self-defense after Bragg fired a gun at her, and no charges were filed at the time. Following her indictment in the current case, the 2018 incident was reopened after new information surfaced.
