With September's waning days came a close to Suicide Prevention Month, a time marked by sincere reflection and advocacy across communities and institutions. The Murfreesboro TN Police Department took to social media to underscore the period dedicated to tackling the tough conversations around mental health. "This month, we pause to remember those we’ve lost, stand with those who are struggling, and commit to breaking the silence around mental health," the department shared in a poignant reminder.
In its post, the department stressed the universality of mental health struggles, transcending occupation or social standing. With various people facing the looming pressures and stresses life invariably throws in their path, the police force encouraged strength through vulnerability. "Asking for help is not a weakness—it’s courage, strength, and survival," they underscored.
Murfreesboro PD advocated a simple, yet potentially life-saving measure. "If you notice someone who seems withdrawn, overwhelmed, or not themselves, reach out," the Facebook post advised. They also reminded its followers that every voice holds weight; each story matters. The importance of seeking assistance in trying times was highlighted as not merely self-respecting but heroic. "Lives matter. Voices matter. Reaching out for help is an act of bravery, not a sign of shame," the department's message reinforced.
"Together, we can fight stigma, bring light to dark places, and save lives," concluded the department. To access the full statement from the department, visit their official Facebook page.
