The race for City Council District 5 in Tampa has concluded, with the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections set to certify the election results today at 2:30 p.m., as announced on the official city website. The newly elected councilmember, Naya Young, will be sworn in during a ceremony scheduled at 3:00 p.m. in the Tampa City Council Chambers. This follows the vacancy left by Councilwoman Gwendolyn Henderson, whose tenure was cut short due to an untimely passing, after being elected in 2023.
Located at 315 E. Kennedy Blvd., on the third floor, media personnel are invited to cover the swearing-in event closely, which will take place, following Henderson's commitment to serving communities in East Tampa, parts of Ybor City, Seminole Heights, as well as the downtown and Channel District areas. Her work was impactful, and her successor is expected to follow in the footsteps, garnering the trust of a diverse electorate.
For those unable to attend in person, the city provides options to view the proceedings from home. According to the city's official announcement, the ceremony will be broadcast live on CTTV, available on Channel 15 for Frontier Communications subscribers and Channel 640 for Charter Spectrum patrons. Additionally, a live stream will be available on the City of Tampa YouTube Channel at @CityofTampaLIVE.
