Residents in New Orleans can expect a mixed bag of weather conditions for the coming week, with the National Weather Service forecasting a series of showers and thunderstorms interspersed with periods of sunshine.
Starting today, there's a 50 percent chance of precipitation, mostly in the form of showers and thunderstorms, and locals might experience gusts of wind from the east at 15 to 20 mph. According to the NWS, residents should expect "new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms." Overnight, the likelihood of rainfall persists, with similar predictions for new rainfall amounts of up to three quarters of an inch.
The weather over the weekend doesn't seem to promise much respite with an 80 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm on Sunday, and a continued 40 percent chance of rain into Sunday night. The trend of intermittent rainfall is expected to carry into the early week, disrupting usual sunny conditions with a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms on Monday.
By Tuesday, the frequency of rain should diminish somewhat; however, a moderate risk of showers and thunderstorms still remains in the forecast. The NWS anticipates "mostly sunny" skies with "a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm." As we approach mid-week, conditions should improve with only a slight chance of showers on Wednesday and increasingly sunny weather toward the end of the week.
Those planning outdoor activities can look forward to more consistent weather patterns beginning Thursday, when sunny conditions are expected to prevail, extending into the weekend. While temperatures are forecasted to hover in the mid-80s, east and northeast winds should keep the evenings cool with lows in the mid-70s.
