The newly expanded parking lot of Richmil Ranch Open Space is now open for business, much to the delight of outdoor enthusiasts looking to indulge in the area's fall offerings. Situated a mere half-mile northwest of Deer Trail, the ranch boasts 352 acres of natural beauty complete with trails that gracefully snake through meadow and hill alike—a serene getaway for trekkers, horseback riders, and those keen to observe the richness of wildlife.

Before the upgrade, the struggles of finding a spot in the congested 10-car and three-horse trailer capacity lot often led to overflow parking issues along Highway 40. Now, visitors are set to easily find space to park and explore thanks to expansion efforts aimed at comfortably accommodating the ranch's increasing popularity. Not only does the gravel lot now have room to fit up to six horse trailers for the larger rigs, but it can also now support 12 vehicles, with three of those being ADA-compliant stalls.

According to an update from Arapahoe County, the improvements are substantial, including the addition of a new sign to mark the entrance—planned for an early December reveal—plus a kiosk, a hitch for horses, new fencing, and a connector trail. These enhancements promise to elevate the experience of guests, ensuring easier access and heightened enjoyment of the ranch's peaceful offerings.

“We are thrilled to provide these improvements for the benefit of eastern County residents and visitors," Arapahoe County Commissioner Jeff Baker said. Emphasizing the community's value on the area's aesthetic and recreational accessibility, the expansion project, which was funded by the quarter-cent Open Space Sales and Use Tax, aims to seamlessly serve the demands of nature aficionados and leisure-seekers. With a project budget tallying up to $500,000, it's clear that the county is serious about to further enriching the quality of outdoor experiences at Richmil Ranch.
