North Bend residents looking to learn more about the 230 Main Affordable Housing Project can mark their calendars. An open house hosted by Related NW, along with city staff, is set for October 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the North Bend Library. This event provides a chance for the public to gaze upon the plans for the upcoming 40-unit development, slated to meet the housing needs of individuals like schoolteachers, retail workers, seniors, and veterans in the Snoqualmie Valley.
The city's mission to offer a mix of living options for its hardworking community will be in the spotlight. Main Avenue North may soon be the site of smartly designed affordable units, pending the outcome of a Public Hearing on November 5 at the North Bend City Hall. Residents can contribute their perspectives on the proposed Disposition and Development Agreement (DDA), which aims to secure city financial support for the development, and critically, to approve specific code deviations crucial for moving the project forward, according to an official announcement from the city.
First floated in 2023, the housing initiative is a response to the area's workforce shortage, tapping into the REET 2 funds, earmarked exclusively for such ventures. The proposition hopes not just to address the present economic strains but to resonate as a beacon of innovative housing solutions, aimed at locals earning no more than 60% of King County's median income.
Related NW entered the scene following the city's Request for Proposal (RFP), securing an Exclusive Negotiation Agreement (ENA) in April 2025, setting the stage for serious talks over the DDA. The goals are clear: establish housing affordability, serve as a regional model, innovate, and fulfill the aspirations detailed in North Bend's Economic Development and Housing Action Plan elements of the Comprehensive Plan, officials said in an announcement.
