Two teenagers were robbed at gunpoint in the Frederickson/Puyallup area last Sunday night, August 16, between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m., after three suspects driving a black SUV stole a motorcycle from the victims and loaded it into their vehicle before fleeing.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is now asking residents in the area to check their Ring cameras, security systems, and dashcams for any footage that might help identify the suspects, according to a Pierce Co Sheriff post on X. Deputies say the robbery happened somewhere within a marked zone bounded by roads including 176th Street East, 178th Street East, 181st Street East, 184th Street East, and 70th, 72nd, and 73rd Avenues East, and they are seeking any surveillance video of vehicles or people passing through that area between 10 p.m. and midnight on the night in question.
Investigators say the case involves three individuals who robbed the two teens at gunpoint, then stole a motorcycle, loaded it into their black SUV, and drove off. Anyone with relevant footage is asked to submit it through the case's dedicated QR code, numbered 2622801998, which routes tips into the sheriff's digital evidence system. Those with emergency information are asked to call 911, per the account's description, while others can use the online portal for non-urgent tips.
How the Digital Tip Portal Works
The request fits a pattern the sheriff's office has leaned on for major felony cases in the county's unincorporated areas. Frederickson itself is an unincorporated census-designated place with more than 25,000 residents and no municipal government or city police department, according to Data USA, meaning Pierce County Sheriff's deputies serve as the only law enforcement response for residents there. The office uses an Axon Citizen digital portal that lets community members upload surveillance video, photos, and security footage tied to specific case numbers, generating unique case URLs and QR codes so witnesses can securely send files straight to detectives, per the Pierce County Sheriff's Office Blotter.
The same crowd-sourced approach was used just weeks earlier, when a July 4 assault at Deer Creek Apartments in Puyallup left a man in critical condition. Detectives launched a similar online evidence appeal to identify two unknown suspects in that case, as Hoodline reported at the time. Just a month before that, a suspect armed with a katana threatened pharmacy employees along the 176th Street East corridor before fleeing toward a nearby shopping center, according to the sheriff's blotter, underscoring how often that stretch of Frederickson and Puyallup has drawn armed-crime calls this year.
What Charges Suspects Could Face
Washington law treats armed robbery as a serious felony. Displaying what appears to be a firearm during a robbery elevates the charge to Robbery in the First Degree under state law, a Class A felony carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison and up to a $50,000 fine, according to Black & Askerov. Stealing the motorcycle would also expose suspects to a separate charge of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine, regardless of the vehicle's value, the firm notes.
No suspect descriptions, vehicle plate information, or details about the motorcycle's make or value have been released, and it remains unclear whether the teenage victims were physically injured during the encounter. The sheriff's office has not said whether any arrests are imminent.

This is not the first time Pierce County has seen armed robberies tied to teenagers or young victims. In May 2025, two juvenile suspects were arrested with help from a Puyallup Police K9 unit after an arranged legal firearm sale in Tacoma turned into an armed robbery at gunpoint, with witness reports of the vehicle allowing investigators to track suspects from Tacoma to Puyallup, Hoodline's earlier coverage detailed. Pierce County's evidence-processing operation, which handles cases like this one, covers 1,790 square miles and serves more than 810,000 residents across unincorporated areas and contract cities, with nine full-time property officers managing evidence for both the sheriff's office and Tacoma Police Department, according to Pierce County.
The robbery adds to a string of property crimes drawing sheriff's office attention in the Puyallup area this month, including a $50K Nintendo collection theft reported two days earlier.
