
The Metropolitan Police Department has successfully apprehended a 32-year-old suspect from Northeast D.C., identified as Anton Smith, in connection with a series of incidents where he allegedly used a firearm to threaten individuals. According to MPD reports, Smith faces multiple charges related to these events which unfolded in Southeast D.C. on Thursday, July 24.
Investigations began after officers were summoned to several locations over fears of an armed assailant. The incidents were reported at Benning Road and C Street at about 7:10pm, the Unit Block of 49th Street shortly after at 7:29pm, followed by the 400 Block of 51st Street at around 7:51pm. Despite the severity of the situation, no injuries were reported in any of the instances. They were fortunate to have escaped physical harm in light of what could have unfolded.
Yesterday, October 15, the MPD Robbery Suppression Unit executed a search warrant connected to these offenses. The search led to the location and arrest of Smith. According to a statement obtained from the MPD, the firearm believed to have been used during the assaults was recovered during the warrant execution, along with four additional firearms.
Smith now faces three counts of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon Gun (Pointing), as confirmed by police.
