
An 18-year-old Marion County high school student was tragically killed early this morning while walking to her bus stop in Ocala. As reported by ClickOrlando, Shannon Rushing, a senior at Forest High School, was struck by a car and succumbed to her injuries following the incident. In a statement on social media cited by Ocala police, the grief from the loss was palpable: "We are heartbroken with this news and are supporting the family and school community during this difficult time."
Grief counselors have been sent to Forest High School to offer support to students and staff grappling with Rushing's untimely death. According to information obtained by ClickOrlando, school counselors remembered Rushing as "very personable, bubbly and well-liked by many, including her teachers and office personnel." She was also noted to have recently joined the Jesus Club on campus and was known for her positive outlook, often encouraging her peers. An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, with police yet to disclose further details.
In a separate report by WESH, the incident occurred in the 1900 block of Old Blitchton Rd. Shannon Rushin, as she was identified by authorities, was on her way to the bus stop when the fatal collision happened.
