Tim Tardibono has resigned as director of the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), prompting renewed discussions about reforming the state’s juvenile justice system and addressing ongoing issues at the Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center (COJC). Lawmakers have expressed cautious optimism about improving operations and reinforcing the agency’s rehabilitation goals.
According to the Oklahoma House of Representatives, following the announcement, state representatives Daniel Pae, Emily Gise, Danny Sterling, and Dell Kerbs issued a joint statement emphasizing the need to act quickly and transparently to strengthen the agency. They cited concerns about staffing shortages, worker safety, and morale, calling for a stronger focus on rehabilitation and youth development.
Sharon Millington has been appointed interim director during this transition. Legislators welcomed her leadership and expressed readiness to work with OJA to improve conditions for both staff and youth under its care.
The lawmakers outlined key priorities for reform, including maintaining safe staffing levels, supporting trauma-informed care, and restoring confidence in the agency’s mission. Their statement reinforces the need for continued collaboration and oversight to ensure meaningful improvements within Oklahoma’s juvenile justice system.
