Tragedy struck Valley Village this morning, as firefighters battled a blaze in a two-story garden-style apartment building. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to an emergency call at 10:25 AM concerning a fire at 11915 W Kling St, as reported by the LAFD Alert System. Upon arrival, crews found flames erupting from the first floor, prompting an immediate offensive operation.
It took 44 firefighters approximately 21 minutes to fully knock down the fire, which was initially detected in a single unit. Tragically, during their primary search, firefighters discovered one victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. The age and gender of the deceased remain unknown, with identification and investigation of the cause of death to be conducted by the LA County Medical Examiner and the LAPD, as detailed in the LAFD's follow-up statement. Fire personnel were successful in preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent units, allowing the evacuees to quickly re-house.
