Starting November 3, Oregon drivers can get a new license plate featuring the Oregon Zoo, designed by local artist Jeremy Nichols, showcasing the zoo's endangered Asian elephants and Portland's nickname, the City of Roses. The plates include a $40 surcharge, with about $35 from each fee going to the Oregon Zoo Foundation to support conservation education, species recovery, and animal wellbeing, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The design was approved by the Oregon Department of Transportation in consultation with the Oregon Zoo Foundation and vetted by the Oregon State Police. To ensure proper functionality, the plates were also tested by the Washington State Tolling Division for compatibility at toll stations.

These plates can be purchased through the DMV by mail, at field offices, or through a licensed dealer. Pre-paid vouchers must be redeemed in person or mailed to DMV Headquarters and cannot be used online. DMV2U can be used for plate renewals or replacements, as reported by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
