An Orlando man, aged 50, lost his life in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday evening near Orlando International Airport, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. ClickOrlando reported the accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Wetherbee Road close to Airport Park Drive, where the man was riding westward.
Attempting to make a left turn onto Airport Park Drive, a 2014 Nissan Rogue, which moved east and was driven by a 60-year-old woman from the same city, collided with the front of the motorcycle as it switched lanes to avoid the SUV. The rider, suffering serious injuries, was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. While making an effort to avoid an accident, minor injuries were suffered by the driver of the Nissan as stated by the Florida Justice report.
The identity of the motorcyclist has yet to be disclosed, pending notification of the family. An investigation is ongoing to determine if charges will be brought against the SUV driver. Traffic at the intersection of Wetherbee Road and Airport Park Drive was significantly impacted for hours following the incident.
Given the circumstances of the accident, where the right side of the Nissan collides with the motorcycle, a wrongful death claim might be plausible. If the investigation establishes that the SUV driver was at fault for not yielding, such a claim could seek compensation for funeral costs, loss of support, medical expenses, and pain and suffering endured by the motorcyclist before his death. During the course of securing accountability and compensation, legal support for the family can often be a necessity, especially when the rider was thrown from their bike, as the Florida Justice expressed.
