Yesterday morning, a 10-year-old girl named Zoe was robbed while walking to school in the East Tremont section of the Bronx. According to her statement to ABC7NY, she was approached by a man who demanded her necklace and forcibly removed it from her neck.
The suspect's actions extended beyond theft as he also slapped Zoe and forcibly took her school ID, leaving visible marks on her neck. After the robbery, Zoe is now accompanied by her grandfather on her way to school. She had previously been walking alone. "My uncle and dad gave it to me for my birthday," Zoe told ABC7NY.
Zoe’s mother, Amelia Cueto, spoke to ABC7NY following the robbery, stating her frustration that her daughter had been targeted and emphasizing her concern for Zoe’s safety, "I don't know what I would say to him, but I would definitely smack him the way he smacked my daughter."
As the investigation proceeds, the New York City Police Department is canvassing the public for assistance in identifying the man responsible for the crime; Bronx News12 reported that the robbery took place in front of 714 East 176 St. and the NYPD encourages anyone with information to contact them at 1-800-577-TIPS.
