As part of an ongoing investigation into multiple allegations, Palatka City Commissioners have approved new terms for City Manager Marcia Carty to remain in her role. The unanimous decision outlines specific conditions under which Carty may continue, following claims made by city employees that include dishonesty, fostering a negative work environment, and directing staff to perform personal tasks, as reported by Action News Jax.
Commissioners have decided to give Marcia Carty a 30-day period to address concerns related to her leadership. During this time, she will receive a written reprimand in connection with one of the nine allegations, specifically, city employees performing work at her home. Commissioner Campbell noted that a similar situation involving another employee would typically result in disciplinary action, as noted by First Coast News. This period is set to begin tomorrow.
The Palatka City Commission further reviewed the situation involving Marcia Carty during a second special meeting. During the session, Mayor Robbi Correa reviewed each allegation individually, giving Carty the opportunity to respond to each one. Allegations included inappropriate comments related to an employee’s ethnic background and the use of city resources for personal purposes, according to News4Jax. In response to several of the claims, Carty denied the accusations.
As part of the commission’s response to the allegations, one employee who filed a complaint against the city manager will be offered a lateral transfer to avoid direct supervision by Carty. Additionally, Police Chief Jason Shaw has temporarily assumed certain administrative responsibilities, with city employees now reporting directly to him. This organizational change is intended to address employee concerns and maintain daily operations during the ongoing investigation.
