Palm Beach County is making tangible strides towards addressing affordable housing with the recent groundbreaking of the Residences at Marina Village, a move that isn't just about laying foundations but also about setting new precedents. A collaboration between the county, Related Urban Development Group, and the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, this project aims to deliver a substantial number of affordable and workforce housing units to the area. To help make this a reality, the county is pitching in with a $4,719,882 Housing Initiative Program (HIP) loan, according to a news release from Palm Beach County.
Occupying a waterfront sweet spot, the eight-story Residences at Marina Village is setting out to not only provide 149 mixed-income apartments but also to champion an environmental cause by seeking Gold Certification under the National Green Building Standards. Future tenants, ranging from households earning between 30% and 110% of the area's median income, can expect to enjoy amenities like energy-efficient appliances and low-flow water fixtures. Moreover, they are set to benefit from the assurance of 60 years of affordability. In the words of County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo, "This development exemplifies Palm Beach County’s ongoing commitment to supporting the creation of new multifamily housing that is affordable and accessible to our workforce," as obtained by Palm Beach County.
The significance of such a collaboration is not lost on the local officials who believe that a project of this magnitude can truly make a difference. As stated by Commissioner Bobby Powell Jr. of District 7, "We are proud to stand together today to mark the beginning of a new chapter – let’s continue a collaborative approach to changing lives and transforming neighborhoods into balanced communities." These sentiments, echoed during the groundbreaking ceremony, underscore a deliberate move by Palm Beach County to actively promote inclusive growth and stability for its residents, as reported by Palm Beach County.
