A tragic incident in Parkland on Friday last week left a 63-year-old man dead after being shot by his 41-year-old son. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded shortly after 8:00 p.m. to a residence where the shooting occurred.
When authorities arrived, the suspect had barricaded himself in a bedroom. Deputies administered life-saving measures to the victim, but he died from his injuries. After about 20 minutes of negotiation, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.
Investigators said the case involves a mental health component, though the motive remains under investigation. Detectives are reviewing past interactions and behaviors to determine what led to the incident.
