A tragic event unfolded early yesterday morning when a pedestrian was struck and killed on Wilkinson Blvd. According to a statement released by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Travell Shamar Lamont Watts, 28, was found unresponsive on the pavement after being hit by a Kia Telluride. The incident occurred yesterday, around 6:13 a.m., prompting immediate police and MEDIC response.
The driver of the Kia, who sustained minor injuries, cooperated with law enforcement at the scene. Watts, on the other hand, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Despite the horror of such scenes, often commonplace in our hectic urban lives, the investigation by the CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit into the circumstances of this fatal encounter is still active. Watts was reportedly walking outside of a designated crosswalk when the accident happened, yet, speed is not believed to have played a role in the crash.
