The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is in the midst of an investigation following a spree of vandalism that has left a local watering hole severely damaged. According to reports from 25 News Now, the Last Chance Bar on West Second Street fell victim to significant and costly destruction overnight.
Responding to the crime scene in the early hours of Wednesday, deputies found a scene of havoc, with the establishment's power lines ripped from their moorings, water pipes ruptured, and almost every window shattered. The outdoor beer garden was annihilated along with the fencing that once demarcated the perimeter of leisure, reported by the Peoria Journal Star.
The financial fallout from this act of vandalism is extensive, with the sheriff's office estimating the damages to be upwards of $100,000. A storage shed on the property also suffered the brunt of the burglars' assault. The Peoria Journal Star included details surrounding the damaged storage shed, which was also subjected to unauthorized access and theft.
Despite the significant setback, the bar has communicated via Facebook its intentions to not let this criminal interruption impede their operations for long. It will remain closed on Wednesday, but should swing its doors open once again by Thursday. "The bar said it would not be opening Wednesday and should be open Thursday," relayed by 25 News Now. As the community reels from the shock, local authorities urge anyone with information to step forward and contact Detective Garen Demery at (309) 216-4775 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at (309) 673-9000.
Local residents and patrons are understandably disturbed by the incident, as the bar is a well-known gathering spot in the community. As investigators comb through evidence, maintaining the anonymity of informants remains pivotal. The sheriff’s office reassures potential informants that they remain a critical piece in the puzzle of bringing those responsible to justice and restoring a sense of safety and normalcy to the area.
