Last night, a high-speed pursuit unfolded in the streets of Petaluma, leading to the arrest of a man on multiple firearm and drug charges. Petaluma Police Department officers had attempted to pull over a vehicle for traffic violations when the driver chose not to comply, igniting a chase into the darkness of the city roads. The driver, identified as Kenneth Douglas, age 41, ended up crashing while negotiating a roundabout, which allowed the police to apprehend him after he tried to flee the scene on foot hastily.
The incident didn't just end with Douglas being collared amongst the thickets. Police located a loaded “ghost gun,” one without a serial number and illegally equipped with a 30-round high-capacity magazine. This untraceable firearm, banned from possession by convicted felons like Douglas, was found just 10 feet from where he was hiding. Also seized were quantities of methamphetamine, a smoking pipe for the substance, and several fake IDs
According to a statement issued by the Petaluma Police Department, "No officers, community members, or uninvolved motorists were injured during the pursuit or subsequent arrest," underscoring the gravity of such incidents but also the relief that came with no collateral damage. Douglas, who was on Post-Release Community Supervision with outstanding felony warrants, now faces a slew of charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, evading a peace officer, and possession of narcotics.
