Philadelphia is shaking things up with the launch of Tuesday Nights Live, a new initiative introduced by the City's Department of Commerce aimed at jazzing up city hotels with live performances and fostering connections within the community. During the celebratory event on September 30, government officials rubbed elbows with creatives, partners, and locals, marking the start of a series that's set to light up the city's nightlife. Notably, the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown is hopping on this lively train by reopening its Market East entrance during event hours, which, as per an announcement made at the kick-off party, should make things a whole lot more convenient for attendees.
Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, amid a collective of enthusiastic partners, expressed her commitment to revitalize the Market East corridor. In a statement obtained by phila.gov, she underlined the project's potential to create jobs and generate tax revenue. "Tuesday Nights Live is an initiative to enhance connectivity and vibrancy in Philadelphia, featuring activities in Center City and beyond," Mayor Parker said. And with more jobs and more money flowing in, it's no secret that the economic implications could be quite significant.
Furthermore, Karen Fegely, the Acting Commerce Director, highlighted the city's ongoing romance with its rich musical heritage as a key economic stimulator. "Philadelphia's rich musical heritage has long been a driving force behind our city's economic growth, fueled by creativity, innovation, connection, and local talent," Fegely told phila.gov. The partnership with the Philadelphia Musicians’ Union Local 77 AFM is a nod to this legacy, ensuring fair pay for local performers who bring this initiative to life.
The hotel industry isn't sleeping on this either, with Salim Wilson, Deputy Director at the Office of Business Success, celebrating the active role hotels like the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown are playing in the city's nighttime economy. Leveraging the creativity of the Department of Commerce’s Nighttime Economy Unit and the cooperative spirit of the Philadelphia Police Department, the Market East entrance reopening is welcomed as a positive step for public accessibility. This milestone was made possible through creative problem-solving by the Department of Commerce’s Nighttime Economy Unit, in close partnership with the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown and the Philadelphia Police Department, Salim Wilson said, acknowledging the program's role in furthering public engagement.
Raheem Manning, Senior Director of Nighttime Economy, highlighted the collaboration behind Tuesday Nights Live, noting the involvement of City departments, Creative Philadelphia, the Nighttime Economy Advisory Council, and participating hotels in support of Mayor Parker’s vision. Manning said he was proud of the joint effort and encouraged residents to take part in the weekly event.
