Earlier this month, a late-night pursuit unfolded in Pierce County involving law enforcement and a vehicle reported stolen. According to an official report from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Blog, a 21-year-old was apprehended after leading police on a dangerous chase accompanied by three underage individuals. The incident concluded without injury to the youths or any bystanders, bringing a note of relief to an otherwise disconcerting event.
What started with an identified stolen vehicle quickly escalated into a chase on October 6, around 10:15pm, with the perpetrator unsuccessfully trying to evade the police. In an attempted PIT maneuver, as per the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Blog, the sergeant's vehicle slid into a ditch after trying to stop the fleeing car on a treacherously narrow road, allowing the suspects to temporarily escape custody. After a second initiation by a Puyallup officer, their vehicle ended also up in a ditch, and the chase transitioned to foot before authorities caught up with the individuals.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department Blog continued to detail that the driver tried to bribe a Puyallup officer during the arrest, offering money in exchange for release. This act led to additional charges including bribery, as well as possession of stolen property, DUI, eluding, and reckless endangerment for the juveniles involved. As for the youth found in the car – a 12-year-old female, a 14-year-old male, and a 16-year-old female – they were all arrested and reportedly intoxicated, which adds another layer of concern to the driver's already grave delinquency.
Within the stolen vehicle, police found substantial ignition damage alongside containers of alcohol, signaling a reckless disregard for safety and legality. Following the pursuit, the three minors were booked into the Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center, as stated by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Blog. Praise was also offered to the collaborative efforts of the Puyallup Police Department and the Pierce County deputies which aided in halting what could have potentially escalated into a more tragic scenario.
