The County of Placer is gearing up for its free medication take-back event slated for October 25. But this isn't a one-off situation; there are also permanent drop boxes and mail-in options readily available throughout the year.
If the event date doesn’t work for you, many local pharmacies have permanent drop boxes for medication disposal. You can easily find one near you using a searchable database. For added convenience, you can also request a pre-paid mail-back package for medications and sharps by filling out an online form or calling (844) 4-TAKE-BACK, as reported by the County of Placer.
Unused or expired medications at home can lead to accidental poisoning or addiction. Throwing them in the trash or flushing them can also harm the environment. That’s why the County of Placer and its community partners offer free, safe disposal services year-round, along with special drop-off events twice a year.
Mark your calendar for October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a medication take-back event. Bring your meds in their original containers, but remove or cross out any personal info. Local law enforcement and community groups are hosting these events across the county. They’ll accept prescription and over-the-counter meds, pet medications, and even vaping devices (just take out the batteries first), as per the County of Placer.
