In a recent case that has resounded through the community, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis declared a 20-year maximum sentence for Jacob Thomas Allred. Teaching at Great Lakes Academy in Plano, Allred was found guilty on one count of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student, alongside two charges of Sexual Performance by a Child, according to details from a Collin County DA's Office statement.
Sending explicit and inappropriate messages to a 15-year-old female student via Discord, Allred's acts spiraled into directing her to commit lewd acts, pivotal for the sexual performance charges. Another former student stepped forward during the investigation, alleging she, too, received inappropriate messages, which were also sent through Discord.
Judge Angela Tucker imposed the maximum 20-year sentence on each charge, effectively solidifying Allred's future behind bars and requiring him to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Disciplinary records from Great Lakes Academy surfaced, showcasing a past incident where Allred had been reprimanded for being alone with a student, foreshadowing his later criminal behavior.
In response to the sentencing, DA Willis stated, per the Collin County DA's Office, "When that trust is betrayed in such an appalling way — a male teacher preying on a 15-year-old girl — the law must respond firmly." He pronounced this maximum sentence as necessary to protect children and deliver the justice these victims deserve. The case, spearheaded by Assistant Criminal District Attorney Abbie Adkins and Nicole Minwell, drew upon the collaborative efforts of DA Investigator Sarah Putman, Victim Assistance Coordinator Valerie Miller, and Legal Secretary Christy Ware, with the full cooperation of administrators at Great Lakes Academy.
