
A six-year-old boy is currently in critical condition after a harrowing incident in Pleasant Grove, where he was struck by an SUV while riding his bike. The accident occurred on Friday evening near the intersection of 1580 West and 3300 North. ABC4 reports that the Pleasant Grove Police Department received the call shortly before 5 p.m., following which officers, upon arriving at the scene, immediately administered life-saving measures to the child.
The young victim was then rushed to a hospital by ambulance and subsequently airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital for more specialized care, with Lieutenant Derek Shumway of the Pleasant Grove Police Department confirming the child's critical state at the hospital, as obtained by ABC4. The road where the accident took place was closed for several hours for investigation purposes. The driver of the SUV, who remained on scene and is reported to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation, impairment as of now is not considered a contributing factor in the incident.
Additional details from Gephardt Daily note that the accident took place near Lincoln Academy, and the boy was flown to Primary Children's Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. The official cause of the crash is still under investigation, and more updates are expected as the case develops.
Meanwhile, according to KUTV, emergency services responded with urgency to the incident call that came around 4:50 p.m., with officers and EMS working swiftly to provide initial treatments before the child's transportation to American Fork Hospital and as officers reported they are not considering distraction or impairment as factors at this stage in their investigation updates on the boy's condition have been scarce as the community awaits with bated breath.
