A violent road rage incident last night on the North Freeway has left one man hospitalized after an encounter turned into a shooting. According to Click2Houston, the incident transpired near the North Main entrance ramp around 11:50 p.m. amidst traffic congestion caused by an earlier auto pedestrian accident.

Police reports indicate that an individual grew frustrated with the vehicle ahead for reportedly insufficient pace on the roadway. The irritated driver exited his vehicle to confront the driver in front, which escalated as he began assaulting the car. During the altercation, the driver inside the car drew a firearm and discharged it once, striking the man, who was then taken to the hospital in stable condition. "The driver was cooperating with the investigation and had a license to carry a weapon," as per a report by Click2Houston.

Adding to the details of the unfortunate occurrence, KHOU reported that Houston police had arrived on the scene to administer first aid before the Houston Fire Department transported the individual to the hospital. The man is expected to make a recovery following the confrontation.

In the course of their initial remarks, Houston Police Department's Lt. Khan described the shooter as being cooperative with the investigation. "Has a concealed handgun license and, you know, did give the, give that person a warning as well," Khan said, as noted by KHOU. "According to him, he feels that he was defending himself and his vehicle." No charges have yet been filed in relation to the shooting.
