Residents of Rogers Park awoke to unsettling news of an attempted home invasion and sexual assault that was reported to have taken place in the early hours of October 10th. According to a Community Alert issued by the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the neighborhood situated within the 24th District experienced a series of alarming events that began with a nearly naked man forcibly entering a home on the 2000 block of Lunt Ave. The intruder, who is described as a Male Hispanic between 19-25 years old with a thin build and curly hair, attacked a woman in her bathroom. Fortunately, the victim managed to fight him off.

The Chicago Police detailed that, an hour before this incident, a similar assault attempt occurred in nearby Evanston by an individual with a matching description. Victims in both Rogers Park and Evanston described the suspect as wearing a black hoodie with "USMC" emblazoned in gold letters, and a light-colored hoodie tied around his waist. The suspect also had on light-colored pants. Following these violent attempts, multiple reports of attempted burglaries within a block radius of the initial home invasion were filed. These nearby burglaries seem to have occurred in close succession to the more direct attacks.

As the community remains on high alert, the CPD is urging citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. They have also emphasized the importance of maintaining functional security systems and ensuring that all doors and windows are securely locked. Residents have been asked to keep an eye out for the described individual and have been reminded of the significance of working together to maintain the safety and security of their neighborhood.

The CPD urges anyone with information relevant to these incidents to come forward and help in the apprehension of the suspect, thus preventing potential future offenses. The alert also includes several safety tips, such as keeping the exterior of one's residence well-lit and being aware of one's surroundings. Individuals who might have any information related to these crimes or who might have observed suspicious behavior are encouraged to contact Area Three detectives at (312) 744-8263.
