Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire) responded to a house fire at 8708 Shoshone Way in Orangevale. According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Facebook page, units from both Metro Fire and Folsom Fire found a garage fire that had spread to the living area and attic. Firefighters conducted an immediate offensive attack and a primary search to confirm all occupants were safe.
Five residents, including three adults and two children, were safely evacuated after a working smoke alarm alerted them in time to escape and call 9-1-1. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District emphasized that the smoke alarm played a critical role in preventing injuries or fatalities.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District is reminding the public to replace smoke alarm batteries and test alarms monthly. The district continues to highlight the importance of functional smoke alarms in ensuring early detection and safe evacuation during fires.
