In an effort to fortify the Sacramento hospitality industry against the grim tide of the opioid epidemic, the City's Office of Nighttime Economy in collaboration with the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition is offering a free Naloxone training, key to equipping staff with lifesaving skills, slated for the afternoon of October 9 from 3-4 p.m, as reported by the Sacramento City Express.

Interested parties are encouraged to secure their spot by RSVP to an email address provided by the city, the training will occur at a specific address where participants will learn how to spot and respond to opioid overdoses with the administration of Narcan (Naloxone); moreover, attendees are set to receive a complimentary Narcan kit, a CPR face shield, and further resources courtesy of the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition, all working together to foster a preparedness that transcends the boundaries of a regular night at work. According to the Sacramento City Express, "These trainings are especially important to ensure that our community feels connected, educated, and prepared during the time of emergencies," as stated by Tina Lee-Vogt, the City’s Nighttime Economy Manager.

The training is part of a broader initiative that includes quarterly trainings designed to ensure that businesses which operate during the night do so in a manner that is safe and informed; these sessions bring together expertise from various city departments, including Code Compliance, the Sacramento Police, and the Sacramento Fire staff, all aiming towards a synthesis of safe practices and operational success, as per the Sacramento City Express.
