The I Street Bridge in Sacramento will be closed for 10 days for siding repairs. The closure starts on Monday at 6 a.m. and will last until October 16 at 6 a.m. The bridge connects Sacramento and West Sacramento and is used by drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, according to CBS News Sacramento.
The bridge will be fully closed while Union Pacific Railroad repairs the exterior siding of a building on it. Commuters will need to use alternative routes. Drivers heading south on Jibboom Street should turn left onto I Street, right onto Third Street, and right onto Capitol Mall to reach West Sacramento via the Tower Bridge. Officials have provided a detailed overview of the detour routes.
Drivers heading into Sacramento should turn right onto Third Street and then left onto Capitol Mall to use the Tower Bridge while the I Street Bridge is being repaired. The City of Sacramento plans to replace the I Street Bridge, with construction starting in Spring 2026. The new bridge will have wider lanes for buses and emergency vehicles, 6-foot bike lanes, and a 12-foot shared-use path. Assistant City Manager Ryan Moore said, “This is not just a bridge—it’s a once-in-a-generation investment in connectivity, safety, and opportunity for both cities,” as reported by FOX40.
