A woman riding as a passenger on a motorcycle was killed Saturday evening after the bike collided with a vehicle on Canyon Road in Redding, and two other people were hospitalized in the crash. Redding Police say the wreck happened near Canyon Road and Valley View Drive, closing a stretch of the roadway for hours while investigators worked the scene.
According to Action News Now, officers were dispatched to the scene after a crash report involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. Investigators say the male motorcyclist attempted to pass a vehicle in the opposing lane and crossed the double yellow line, striking the vehicle as it was turning into a residential driveway. The female passenger on the motorcycle suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased, the outlet reports.
The male motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries, while the occupant of the vehicle was transported to Dignity Health Mercy Medical Center with apparent minor injuries, per the same account. Mercy Medical Center operates one of only two Level II Trauma Centers north of Sacramento, according to Dignity Health, making it the region's primary destination for serious trauma cases across multiple Northern California counties.
