Salado, Texas, has notched another feather in its cap with the recent accolade bestowed upon the Village by Governor Greg Abbott. Recognized as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community, Salado has long been appreciated for its capacity to draw visitors from everywhere with its lush historical tapestry and modern allure. This new designation, as detailed in a statement from the Governor's office, stands as testament to Visit Salado's efforts and its intent to continuously boost the local economy through tourism.
Underlining the vitality of the travel industry to the local and state economy, Governor Abbott remarked, "Travelers to and within Texas generate almost $200 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state." The governor appears to actively encourage other communities to try and receive the certification to further spread tourism and employment. Salado's dual status as both Music Friendly and Tourism Friendly puts it in a unique position to offer a culturally eclectic experience to its guests.
Senator Pete Flores, as told to the Governor's office, celebrated Salado's historic role in Texas tourism, which dates back to 1860, invoking the memory of General Sam Houston and the community's age-old hospitality. Representative Brad Buckley also praised the charm of Salado, noting its blend of early Texas settlement history and a peppering of art, entertainment, and shopping options. Buckley touted the upcoming Salado Stroll as an event not to be missed, emphasizing the town's engaging heritage.
In his expression of gratitude for the recognition, Mayor Pro Tem Zach Hurst shared, "This recognition underscores our ongoing commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for visitors, promoting our historic and cultural assets, and supporting the growth of local tourism." Salado now looks to continue enhancing its status as a captivating destination, offering memorable experiences for all who pass through its bounds.
The Tourism Friendly certification, administered by Travel Texas, provides communities with vital tools and knowledge. It opens doors to establish important relationships for development, educates local leaders on the significance of tourism, and advises on strategies to enhance visitor experiences. The effort underscores a wider mission by Travel Texas to significantly position Texas as a travel destination, driving non-resident traffic into the state with the intent to bolster community and statewide revenues.
