Underlining the vitality of the travel industry to the local and state economy, Governor Abbott remarked, "Travelers to and within Texas generate almost $200 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state." The governor appears to actively encourage other communities to try and receive the certification to further spread tourism and employment. Salado's dual status as both Music Friendly and Tourism Friendly puts it in a unique position to offer a culturally eclectic experience to its guests.
Senator Pete Flores, as told to the Governor's office, celebrated Salado's historic role in Texas tourism, which dates back to 1860, invoking the memory of General Sam Houston and the community's age-old hospitality.
