Las Vegas animal lovers have a chance to find a new furry friend without the burden of adoption fees this weekend, as Mars, known for its extensive pet care brands, is hosting their 17th annual Global Adoption Weekend. The event, which runs from October 3 through October 5, connects prospective pet parents with animals in need of homes and will occur at partner shelters nationwide, including The Animal Foundation.
The move to waive fees is part of a larger philanthropic effort, with Mars putting forward more than $185,000 for the cause—besides, PEDIGREE Foundation is chipping in an additional $25,000 to help with dog adoptions, according to News3LV. The Animal Foundation itself, located at 665 N. Mojave Road, will welcome potential adopters from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day of the event, providing a chance for many cats, dogs, and small animals to find their forever homes.
Whilst the adoption fees are waived, a $10 pet license fee may still apply to some adoptions, and the usual adoption process remains intact ensuring all animals go to suitable homes. Enthusiasts looking to get a head start can join a waitlist starting at 8 a.m., with doors opening later at 11 a.m., as mentioned by KNPR's Desert Companion.
All pets adopted throughout this event will come vaccinated, microchipped, and already spayed or neutered. Pet parents will also leave with a welcome kit containing treats from brands like IAMS and PEDIGREE, this being an added sweetener to the deal.
