The City of Sandy Springs is marking its 20th anniversary with a picnic in City Green on November 22. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the community celebration, dubbed "Celebrate 20 Years of Sandy Springs: Picnic in the Park," will coincide with the season's final Farmers Market. According to the city's announcement, the festivity includes entertainment, a commemorative cake, and a lengthy communal table set up along Blue Stone Rd. to encourage community engagement and storytelling.
Patrons have the option to bring their own picnic or indulge in dishes from the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center’s Executive Chef, such as French toast, bacon, and chicken fingers. Adults can enjoy a drink from the cash bar offering mimosas and Bloody Marys, stretching along Blue Stone Rd. in a unique display of community connection, as the shared table welcomes all to partake.
Another feature of the event is the oral history project, which will be shown in a special video presentation. This project aims to weave the community’s narrative through milestones and memories, featuring influential locals and inquisitive children aged six to ten "asking insightful questions." In a statement obtained by the City of Sandy Springs, organizers say this aspect of the celebration serves to deepen the historical understanding and community bonds.
In the words of Mayor Rusty Paul, who has played an integral role in Sandy Springs since its foundation, "This event is a tribute to the spirit of Sandy Springs, where neighbors aren’t just residents but friends and collaborators in shaping our city’s future." Echoing the communal theme, the mayor invited residents with the words, “Come hungry, come happy, and most importantly come together as we celebrate 20 years of Sandy Springs!” a sentiment caught by the event's spirit of togetherness and shared purpose.
