A 33-year-old man with a previous record of evading law enforcement was taken into custody by Seattle police on Tuesday night after he once again attempted to flee from officers. The incident, occurring on the 200 block of Harvard Avenue East around 7:00 p.m., was initially prompted by calls to authorities about a man brandishing a firearm at bystanders. As detailed in a report by the Seattle Police Department Blotter, the suspect hunkered down outside a business in what appeared to be an effort to disguise his presence.
Officers identified the individual, recognizing him from previous arrests related to felony charges, and known tendencies to possess firearms. When approached by law enforcement, the man chose to sprint. Despite the chase weaving through the Capitol Hill area, which included the man hurdling a fence, and navigating a parking lot before officers lost visual contact, his pattern of flight did nothing to secure his freedom for long. A coordinated response featuring a police K9 team, and a chopper from the King County Sheriff’s Office was deployed to track the perpetrator.
The search concluded with the man discovered concealed among trees in a parking lot on the same block he was first confronted. Though the alleged weapon was never found at the scene, police secured 2.8 grams of Methamphetamine and a single round of ammunition from him. The man was subsequently taken into King County Jail, with charges including obstruction and narcotics possession presented against him.
Overseeing the ongoing inquiry is the Narcotics Unit who, "will be running this investigation", as the Seattle Police Department Blotter reported. The repetitive nature of the suspect's choices harkens back to a well-worn narrative of cat-and-mouse between certain individuals and law enforcement agents, faced with the strenuous task of maintaining public safety in an urban tapestry threaded with complexities.
