
The Georgia State Senate’s LGBTQ+ Caucus has appointed Sen. RaShaun Kemp (D–Atlanta) as its new chair ahead of the 55th anniversary of Atlanta Pride. Kemp, the first openly gay senator in the Georgia State Senate, succeeds Minority Whip Sen. Kim Jackson (D–Stone Mountain).
According to the Georgia State Senate Press Office release, the caucus focuses on advancing issues important to Georgia’s LGBTQ+ community, including promoting equality and protecting residents from discrimination. Kemp stated that the group will continue working to ensure that all Georgians can live openly and safely.
Other caucus members include Rep. Sam Park (D–Lawrenceville), Rep. Park Cannon (D–Atlanta), Rep. Karla Drenner (D–Avondale Estates), and Rep. Marvin Lim (D–Norcross). The announcement coincides with Atlanta’s upcoming Pride celebration, highlighting the state’s ongoing efforts to support LGBTQ+ rights through legislative advocacy.
