The Department of Transportation is gearing up for a revamp with the recent Senate green light, which, according to a statement obtained by FMCSA, confirmed four new officials to join the top ranks under the leadership of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. This update came shortly after a tight Senate vote yesterday, which tilted in favor of the nominees with a tally of 51-47.
Breaking new ground at the DOT, the newly confirmed Assistant Secretary for Multimodal Freight Infrastructure & Policy, Michael Rutherford, will assume a pivotal role in shaping national freight policies and fostering data-sharing initiatives; his portfolio is wide, spanning the development of grant programs to tackling cargo theft and collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders ranging from industry leaders to local transportation departments.
Adding to the roster of expertise, Gregory Zerzan steps in as General Counsel while, Derek Barrs takes the helm as the 8th Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), followed by David Fink who steps up as the 16th Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
Secretary Duffy expressed his enthusiasm for the new appointees, noting, "Michael, Gregory, Derek, and David are accomplished leaders in their fields who will help us advance the transportation, safety, and infrastructure needs of the American people," adding a gesture of welcome to the team that will undoubtedly be instrumental in maneuvering the intricacies of U.S. transportation and infrastructure policy at a time when reinvention and resilience call for capable leadership at all levels.
